Marsh Fires Rangers
The date is etched in League Cup history: March 4, 1967, when Queens Park Rangers beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 in the first ever League Cup final at Wembley.
West Brom were hot favourites and were 2-0 up at half time, thanks to two goals from Colin Clarke, but the man named after a battle ship sunk Albion under the Twin Towers.
QPR pulled one goal back through a Roger Morgan header, and ten minutes later Marsh, who had scored a wonder goal in the semi-final against Birmingham City, repeated the trick with a wonderful equaliser worthy of the world’s greatest stage. And in the closing stages, Mark Lazarus beat Albion goalkeeper Dick Sheppard to complete a marvellous Marsh inspired comeback.
