Canaries Silenced By Coates
Ralph Coates was stunned to be told he wasn't starting the 1973 League Cup final against Norwich but when John Pratt went down after just 15 minutes with a groin strain, he got a chance.
The game had been tight with few chances created. Then, a throw-in from Martin Chivers was flicked on by Martin Peters and Coates, hovering on the edge of the area, dispatched an unstoppable volley.
Not known for his exuberance, Coates could not disguise his joy, dancing around Wembley at the end with the League Cup on his head, the goal etching him into Spurs history.
