Leeds Fate Sealed By Seals

Leeds Fate Sealed By Seals

Memories are made of nights like these. In 1974 Chester, under the guidance of Ken Roberts, staged a truly remarkable evening when in front of 19,000 fans they sent troubled Leeds out of the League Cup.

Leeds, the reigning First Division champions, were still getting over the debacle of Brian Clough’s disastrous short reign when they travelled to Chester - and were beaten 3-0.

With veteran Chester centre-forward Derek Draper causing mayhem in the Leeds defence, the Seals’ John James scored twice, one a penalty, and Trevor Storton completed the rout. Chester went on to reach the semi-finals before losing cruelly to Aston Villa.
