Tueart Lights Up Wembley

The 1976 final will be remembered for one of the best goals ever to grace a cup final.

With the game level at 1-1 the ball was sent across the penalty from where the majestically skilled Dennis Tueart spectacularly connected with a bicycle kick which flew into the Newcastle net, a truly fantastic strike and one that almost silenced the remarkable Magpies’ fans.

Tueart had been a youngster at Newcastle and was still a Magpies fan. But it was City folklore that he wrote himself into, as the 1976 League Cup victory remains the last time the Sky Blues lifted a major trophy.
