Lee’s Three Sinks Arsenal

Arsenal’s defence was regarded as virtually unbreakable; the famous back five of David Seaman, Lee Dixon, Steve Bould, Tony Adams and Nigel Winterburn had yielded just seven goals in 17 matches.

And given that the game came just a month after the infamous 1990 21-man Old Trafford brawl which saw both sides docked League points, the tie had added spice. Arsenal suffered an early set-back when Clayton Blackmore scored after just 80 seconds, before Mark Hughes added a second before half-time.

Moments later, teenager Lee Sharpe curled a great goal into the top-corner. Arsenal hit back with two goals from Alan Smith, only for Sharpe to head his second before completing a hat-trick. Danny Wallace completed the 6-2 rout for United.
