Savo’s Magic Moment

The 1996 League Cup Final could not have been more one-sided as Villa dominated Howard Wilkinson’s Leeds side throughout the 90 minutes. It also saw striker Savo Milosevic enjoy an all too rare moment of glory in a Villa shirt.

The Serbian international, who had been a disappointment ever since his £3.5m move to the second city, struck from 25 yards to give Villa a first half lead and further goals from Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke in the second period took the game away from a tiring Leeds.

It was Villa’s fifth success in the competition, at the time equalling the record set by Liverpool.
